2014 - 2015 Season

Recap of State and Stotes

Yorktown had good showing at both the Ted Phoenix Lower Boat Championships and at the VASRA State Championships this season, even though none of our boats qualified for Nationals.

Highlights include the following:

Ted Phoenix

Women’s 3V Silver medal, just 4 s behind McLean; Women’s Freshman 8 finished sixth overall after advancing to the final. Men’s Freshman 8 advanced to the final, finishing 5th; Men’s Novice 8 also finished fifth overall after qualifying for the final.

Women’s 2V Bronze Medal. Women’s 1V finished first in Petite Final, seventh overall. Men’s Junior 8 4th overall; Men’s 2V, 4th overall; Men’s 1V finished first in the Petite Final, seventh overall.

Stotesbury Cup Regatta

In Friday qualifying, both the Men’s and Women’s Freshman 8s advanced to semifinals, finishing 17th and 18th respectively in their time trials. Both crews were eliminated Friday afternoon after finishing 6th in their semifinal events.

The Men’s and Women’s 1Vs both finished 21st (needed to finish in the top 18) in their time trials and thus did not advance to semifinals.

The Men’s J8 finished 24th in its time trial and did not advance to semifinals. The women’s 2V finished 21st, also missing qualifying for semifinals.

The Men’s 2V set a goal of finishing in the top 8 during qualifying to earn a good lane for the semifinals. They finished 6th, placing them in Lane 2. In an exciting and fast semifinal that featured St. Alban’s (eventual winner), Gonzaga, Woodson, Ocean City, and LaSalle, the 2V surged ahead of Woodson in the final 400 m to finish 3rd and advance to the final, where they finished 6th. This was the first final at Stotesbury for a Yorktown crew in at least 10 years.

Brandon Peck, a senior who rowed 7 seat in the 1V recieved the Better Sports Club of Arlington Spring High School Sportsmanship Award.
